BIMSTEC was established on 6 June 1997 with the signing
of the Bangkok Declaration of which Thailand is one
of the founding members. Currently, BIMSTEC comprises seven
Member States, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal,
Sri Lanka, and Thailand, all of which share common economy
and culture as well as close ties with one another through trade,

BIMSTEC has been able to sustain its economic growth
for over 25 years. Due to its geographical advantage,
BIMSTEC has a strong potential of becoming one of the global
economic and technological hubs.
BIMSTEC has seven sectors of cooperation :

and Development

3) Security
4) Agriculture and Food Security
5) People-to-People Contact
