How is BIMSTEC important to Thailand?

BIMSTEC is the only cooperation framework that connects South Asia and Southeast Asia with the purpose to promote economic and technical cooperation in the Bay of Bengal. Thailand’s cooperation in BIMSTEC will provide the following opportunities : 1) promote economic recovery 2) promote accessibility to markets with a combined population of more than 1.5 billion people 3) promote linkages of supply chains with South Asia 4) promote Thailand as the hub of regional connectivity and 5) promote sustainable socio-economic development by reaping the benefits from BIMSTEC’s long shared history and culture.
